Atlantic Canada Welcomes Over 1-Million Passenger Visits in Record-Breaking 2024 Cruise Season
Halifax, Nova Scotia – The Atlantic Canada Cruise Association (ACCA) proudly announces an exceptional 2024 cruise season, with over 675 vessel calls and more than 1-million passenger visits across the region from April to November.
“This year’s achievements underscore the dedication and teamwork of our ports, industry partners, regional stakeholders, and communities,” said Sarah Rumley, ACCA Executive Director. “Favourable weather, renowned hospitality, and one-of-a-kind experiences have been key to this success. As we celebrate these accomplishments, we remain committed to fostering a viable and responsible future for the cruise industry in Atlantic Canada.”
A Landmark Year for Atlantic Canada
The 2024 cruise season marked a remarkable milestone for Atlantic Canada, highlighting the region’s growing popularity with a notable rise in spring and summer, approximately 30% over 2023. Over 25 cruise lines visited the region, including an impressive array of first-time calls. From bustling port cities to hidden coastal gems, the region’s diverse offerings drew travellers seeking authentic and memorable experiences. These achievements reflect the collaborative efforts of the Canada New England Alliance, underscoring Atlantic Canada’s unique appeal to cruise travellers worldwide.
ACCA’s five partner ports—Charlottetown, Corner Brook, Halifax, Saint John, and Sydney—played a pivotal role in this success, standing out as premier destinations that offer exceptional hospitality. Complementing these premier destinations, 20 niche ports, including the French territory of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, enriched the region’s offerings by inviting visitors to experience the charm and beauty of Atlantic Canada.
Looking Ahead
ACCA is committed to fostering consistent, responsible growth for the cruise industry that extends beyond recovery. With a focus on destination stewardship, the organization leverages strategic partnerships to develop sustainable approaches rooted in managed tourism practices, ensuring that industry development aligns with principles that create positive impacts for both local communities and the tourism sector.
