Charlottetown Harbour Authority sets sights on record-breaking calls for the 2015 Cruise Season
(Charlottetown, PEI) The Charlottetown Harbour Authority is hosting a jam-packed season for cruise with a record breaking 77 ship calls this season.
The season will kick off in May with 9 calls, three of which are overnighting in Charlottetown. The season will officially begin May 08 with the MS Saint Laurent, of Haimark Luxury Cruises.
The Pearl Mist, with Pearl Sea Cruises, is returning for her second season, with 10 calls to the Capital City. As an added bonus, six of these calls will be overnighting, offering passengers and crew the opportunity to enjoy the island in an evening setting.
In total, the Charlottetown Harbour Authority will welcome approximately 131,242 passengers and crew this season. “Welcoming 77 ship calls to Charlottetown this year, is definitely a new record for the port,” states Stan MacPherson, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Charlottetown Harbour Authority. “Having this many different lines calling our Island brings a diverse group of passengers and crew, and gives us a wonderful opportunity to showcase all our Island has to offer.”
Holland America remains the most frequent caller to Charlottetown, with almost 40 calls throughout the six-month season. Royal Caribbean, Princess, Norwegian, and a number of other lines will also be calling this season. Crystal Cruises, which boasts two of the highest rated cruise ships in the world, makes its return to the Island this year with a call from the Crystal Symphony. Crystal Cruises last called Charlottetown in 2009.
This year’s season will wrap up slightly earlier than last year, with the last call scheduled for October 25 with the MS Saint Laurent. “It’s not too often that we begin and end a season with the same line,” remarks Les Parsons, CEO of the Charlottetown Harbour Authority. “The consistency from these lines throughout the season is encouraging for future growth into the summer months.”
