The Northumberland Fisheries Museum pays tribute to the hardworking fisher folk of the Northumberland Strait with artifacts, memorabilia, boats, and exhibits detailing our rich Maritime history. Visit the gulf style Lighthouse Research Centre onsite or “Adopt a Lobster.”

Historical Voyages to a New World

At the Hector Heritage Quay journey back to 1773, immersing yourself in the story of the Ship Hector. Learn about the historic voyage of 189 passengers who sailed from Ullapool, Scotland and landed in Pictou in 1773, making it the Birthplace of New Scotland.

Walk Through History in the Town of New Glasgow

Discover the historic riverside Town of New Glasgow. Learn the stories of its most prominent settlers, shipbuilding history, impressive architecture and savour local cuisine. Experience large-scale, outdoor works of art including the story of Black civil rights activist, Viola Desmond, throughout the streets of this beautiful downtown. Walk the Samson Trail built on Canada’s oldest iron railroad bed.
